Workgroup Opportunities: Your Expertise is Needed! Consider Joining an ACMG Workgroup

Are you interested in serving on a workgroup? The College is currently seeking volunteers for the following ACMG workgroups.



Workgroup Name:

Global Access to Genetic Resources: Concerns, Advances, and Future Directions


Workgroup Description: 

This Points to Consider Statement on Global Genetics Access will bring attention to current pitfalls and challenges in global accessibility to genetic testing, resources, and equipment. The Statement will also highlight current and future efforts to expand access to help reduce health disparities. The overall goal of the work will be to emphasize the importance of global access to genetics to provide equitable, culturally conscious care for all. Topics will include the availability of genetic providers, testing, and information globally; genetic laboratory accessibility; populations included and those that are underrepresented in the uptake of genetic testing and in genetic databases; cultural and privacy considerations; and actions taken to address some of these issues and future directions.


Expertise Needed:

Genetics professionals with global health experience or who are more familiar with international genetics services, outreach, programs, etc.

Application deadline:

August 22, 2024 (applications that are incomplete or received after the due date will not be accepted).

 

Eligibility Criteria:

ACMG members are given priority for workgroups.

The ability to regularly attend and participate in meetings (no less than 80%). For workgroups participation in the entire writing process (from conceptualization of the topic to writing and editing the document). Early career professionals and current members who are not on an active workgroup will be given precedence.


Selection Process:

All completed applications will be provided to the workgroup chairs for review. Once a decision has been made, the workgroup chairs will contact you to confirm your participation in this new workgroup.

The final proposal will then go through the approval process (consisting of the committees that are sponsoring the project, the CPR committee, and the Board of Directors). As part of this process, all workgroup  members are required to complete an ACMG participation agreement.
